Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q:  Can I register the day of the event?
A:  Yes, we accept all race day registration participants. Please arrive early so that you do not have to wait in line too long and you can enjoy the Family Lifestyle Experience

 Q:  Can all schools participate?
A:  Yes, any school (public, private, or charter) can participate.

Q:  What if I do not have any affiliation with a school and want to participate?
A:  Yes, you can participate and you should sign up with any school you would like to help out.

Q:  I am a teacher or administrator. How do I register my students?
A:  First of all, pre-registration is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged! We prefer that you pre-register online as day-of registration takes much more time and slows down the pace at which participants can enter the Expo or the Stadium. Further, it slows the pace at which we can get numbers together to determine winning schools, as we have to sort and count each entry waiver by hand. This takes up to a week, whereas pre-registration counting takes about two to three hours. Check the event section for specifics regarding the registration process.

Q:  Who counts as a participant? Is there an age requirement?
A:  A participant is ANY person (parent, student, faculty, staff, sibling, friend, neighbor, relative, etc.) who registers AND attends the event, regardless of whether they participate in the 5-K. They can be young, old, or anywhere in between.

The only age requirement is with respect to signing the entry waiver. The entry waiver online must be filled out by someone 13 years or older. The printable waiver must be signed by someone 18 years or older.

Q:  What if I do not want to or am not able to participate in the 5-K, but would like to go. Does my (student’s) school still get credit?
A:  Yes. Any person who registers AND attends the event, regardless of whether they participate in the 5-K, counts as a participant, and thus credit will be given to the school you have chosen.

Q:  Why register? Is registration mandatory?
A:  Registration is our way of verifying who was in attendance at the event. For legal reasons, we require everyone who attends and participates in any aspect of the event to sign a release waiver as a part of registering, whether registering online or in person. By registering, the school of your choice gets credit for your participation and increases their chances of winning a grant or prizes from the Fitness Challenge Foundation. In addition, by registering you waive all persons / entities involved with the Kids Fitness Challenge from any liabilities associated with your participation, as well as permitting any media to use photographs, videos, or quotes with which you may be associated.

Q:  How much does it cost?
A:  Registration for the event, as well as all activities, vendors, games, parking, etc. are free of charge. However, the venue at which the event is held (i.e. stadium, rink, park, etc.) may wish to sell concessions. It is up to you as to whether you would like to purchase these concessions.

Q:  How does my school win money?
A:  Every school that brings at least 65 participants (see definition of "Participant") shares a pre-determined amount of prize money*. The top Elementary and Middle Schools also win grand prizes including cash, gift cards, or other prizes*. Prizes and awards are given out at an Awards Ceremony, the time, date, and location of which to be determined and announced after each event. The winning schools must be represented at the Awards Ceremony to receive their awards. The Fitness Challenge Foundation does not mail or deliver prizes.

*Amounts may vary from one event to another.

Q:  Are there strings attached to the Award my school received?
A:  We simply request that all prizes be used to further physical activity and nutrition education in your school, in whatever form that may be.

Q:  I am in a wheelchair or use other walking aids. Can I still participate in the 5-K?
A:  You may participate if your doctor says you may and you are fit enough to do so, however, if you are in a wheelchair, motorized or other, you may or may not be able to fully participate as some venues don’t allow wheels on their fields or other surfaces. This will depend on the venue and will be clarified per event.

Q:  Can I ride a bike, skateboard, blades, skates, or scooter around the 5-K?
A:  The answer to this depends on the venue at which the event is being held. Some venues do not allow wheels on the grass. If the venue allows wheels, we will make it clear on flyers that wheels are acceptable. If so, we request each participant on wheels wear a helmet and other appropriate protective gear. We also recommend they bring a chain and lock if they plan on leaving their bike somewhere while they enjoy the expo, or designate someone they trust to watch it.

 Q:  Are pets allowed?
A:  No. We strongly ask that you do not bring your pets. Working animals, such as seeing-eye dogs, are absolutely welcome!

 Q:  Do you provide transportation?
A:  No. If your school desires to have participants bussed to and from the event, then it is your school’s responsibility to make such arrangements. In certain circumstances, the Fitness Challenge Foundation may be able to connect schools with entities willing to provide transportation, however this is not guaranteed. To find out if the Foundation may be able to help in this area, please see www.kidsfitnesschallenge.com. If a link entitled “Need a Bus” is found near your event’s information on the home page, then the Foundation may have helpful information. If there is no such link, the Foundation does not have any part in bus arrangement for your event.
