Kids' Day at Speedway

Thousands have fun fighting childhood obesity

FONTANA - Thousands of men, women and children - but mainly children - awoke earlier than usual Saturday and made their way to California Speedway - all in the name of physical fitness.

They came by car or school bus. Some traveled from Los Angeles. It spoke volumes to the attention drawn to the issue of childhood obesity in the United States. It was the second best inaugural event in the 6 -year history of the Kids Fitness Challenge trailing only last year’s Rose Bowl event in terms of total participants.

About 5,000 people gathered Saturday for the Kids Fitness Challenge at the Speedway. Children and adults alike participated in a 5K walk on a course that stretched along some of the Speedway's race track. But participants were allowed to run, skate or ride their bicycles along the course as well.
